Blog #1. “The Ultimate Journey!”
“He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” ~1 John 2:6~
Life is one of the greatest and most complex challenges. I am not just talking about life in general, I am referring to going to a deeper level: the journey of life while walking with Christ. Life is filled with hills and valleys, trials and tribulations, obstacles and downfalls, and of course, a good victory every so often. Eventually these day to day trials we come across can and will cause us to become weary, and so we need something to give us a boost in our faith to keep on moving forward. I want this blog, “Walking With Christ”, to be a place where you can find not only a piece of encouragement to pick you up when you are feeling down, but to also offer some clarification and direction as you commit to “A Walk of a Lifetime”.
Now let’s talk a little more about this journey, shall we? Abiding and walking in the ways of Jesus Christ (1 John 2:6), can be difficult because there are many obstacles that come our way, but it also says in the Bible: “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12). Through these tribulations we grow and mature in our faith and become the person God has destined us to be. Not only does this wonderful process of growth in Christ occur, but we also receive the greatest reward: eternal life with our Father in heaven; a place that has no words to describe its absolute magnificence alongside everlasting joy and peace.
There are many great examples in the Bible that can illustrate the spiritual walk, such as Joseph, the son of Jacob and Rachel. Joseph was the youngest of his eleven brothers (that is before the later birth of his brother Benjamin), and because Joseph was given to Jacob in his older years, he was highly thought of or exalted by his father. On top of being favored, Joseph was given a colorful tunic and had dreams of greatness, which led to his eleven older brothers becoming envious and hateful towards him.
Throughout the rest of the story, we see that Joseph faces rejection, betrayal, slavery, false accusations, and imprisonment, but in the end, he winds up right underneath Pharaoh’s ruling hand and is granted authority over all of Egypt. How did Joseph accomplish this journey filled with trials and reach great victory? Instead of giving up in times that seemed hopeless, he kept the faith, and through it all “the Lord was with him” (Genesis 39:23). In everything that Joseph went through, not only did he grow and mature in his faith and become the person God had destined him to be (a mighty leader and ruler over Egypt), but in doing so he also received the great reward of God’s honour. So I want to encourage all of my readers, whether you are just beginning your walk with Christ or are in the midst of a storm, to stay strong in your faith, trust in the Lord, and you will reach victory and the prize that awaits you. God bless.
