A Spirit Of Murder
June 20, 2012
It seems that for the last couple of months, there have been consistently rising reports of barbaric slayings in our nation and worldwide. No doubt, if you are reading this blog outside of North America, you will attest to that reality in your area as well. This alarming rate of murders leads me to believe that a spirit of slaughter has been unleashed in the world. When we consider the signs of the times of Christ’s return, this one seems to stand out in our faces. Jesus compared the conditions of society at the time of His coming with the stark evil of Noah’s generation. In Genesis 6, God Himself revealed to Noah that the unbridled wickedness became too much for Him to bear and His mercy ran out, requiring Him to judge! “And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.” (Gen 6:13)

I wonder how much longer a holy and just God who has never changed, can tolerate this generation of massively increasing bloodshed? Surely, the hot coals of God’s wrath and judgment against rebellious sin and defiance and murder are even now being stoked in preparation for a final display of righteous wrath upon a sin-bent world that will be destroyed by fire, according to 2 Peter 3:7 which declares,“The heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men”

Our top psychiatrists and criminal experts try to understand the murderer’s mind and motive behind the random, devious crime— provocation, revenge, jealousy, rage, theft; and yet in many cases, there is no apparent reason—because a demonic, murderous spirit is behind the deed—a demonic spirit that has manipulated its warped victim to do its lethal work. This in no way absolves the criminal or society of responsibility, for God is not mocked and whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.

How clear that eternal principal stands today in our corrupt nation. My younger son, Matt, recently made this obvious statement—“Dad, is it any wonder that there is so much murder today, when we keep producing movies openly depicting all of these perverted crimes for people to be entertained by?” How true—we reap what we sow! And in the reality of that biblical truth, we are reaping a spirit of murder for the millions upon millions of helpless babies that have been brutally aborted from their mothers’ wombs through unimaginable painful procedures because of a matter of inconvenience. Their innocent blood has been crying out for justice ever since the 1973 Roe versus Wade decision by the United States Supreme Court to legalize abortion, resulting in the massacre of 54 million unborn children. North America has sown murder and we are reaping murder. It’s just that simple.

Here’s the good news—Noah and his family found grace in the eyes of the Lord when all humankind rejected grace. Even as Noah prepared an ark for the saving of his loved ones, God has provided us with an “ark” as well for this generation. His name is Jesus, “full of grace and truth!” (John 1:14-17). I urge you to get into the ark before the storm clouds of impending judgment strike with an unquenchable fire of fury that will appease the righteous wrath of God whose gift of grace has been scorned and mocked by reprobate men without a conscience, controlled by a spirit of murder. Come into the ark, Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world, while the door of grace remains opened, for “whosoever will, may come!”
